Borse a tema e sede specifici

Alcune borse di perfezionamento previste dal bando hanno per oggetto lo svolgimento di specifici temi di ricerca, per i quali sono richieste particolari competenze che saranno valutate dalle commissioni giudicatrici. Tali borse prevedono che parte significativa dell’attività di ricerca sia svolta presso l’ente finanziatore. In questa pagina sono indicate  le tematiche e le condizioni delle borse, che i candidati si impegnano a rispettare.

I candidati interessati anche a una o più di queste borse devono esprimere la propria opzione in fase di candidatura, ma sono comunque candidati anche alle altre borse del corso.

Tematica di ricerca 1: Nanocrystallography for advanced applications: development of 3D electron diffraction methods for the study of nanomaterials. The candidate should develop at the same time acquisition protocols at the TEM and specific data analysis strategies on the recorded data. Candidates may have a background in physics or chemistry or material science or data analysis and informatics

Tematica di ricerca 2: CryoEm in electron diffraction: solving the crystal structure of proteins from nano crystals. The candidate will develop new methods for collecting 3D electron diffraction data on macromolecular nanocrystals alternative to x-ray diffraction and electron microscopy imaging. The final goal will be to derive the crystal structure of unknown macromolecules that cannot be addressed with standard crystallographic methods. The candidate may have a background in structural biology but student coming from physics or chemistry or material science are also encouraged to apply.

Tematica di ricerca 3: Development of innovative materials by ultrasmall-in-nano approach for guided cancer treatments. The candidate will carry on a multidisciplinary research devoted to the design, development, characterization and in vivo application of inorganic nanomaterials for guided chemo(radio)therapy of solid neoplasms. Eligible candidates should have a MSc degree in physics, chemistry, biology or related fields. Previous research experience is not requested. Creativity as well as marked enthusiasm for research are mandatory.

Tematica di ricerca 4: Exploring structural phase transition in 2D materials. Control of conductivity and optical properties via structural changes is of tremendous technological importance in information storage. Selected 2D materials, such as transition metal ditellurides, hold the potential for structural phase transition governed by chemical, thermal and electrostatic means. The candidate will synthesize via chemical vapor deposition 2D layers and explore phase transition adopting a number of microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. Ideal candidates hold a degree in Physics or Materials Science.

Tematica di ricerca 5: Graphene/TMD heterostructures for proximity spin-orbit physics and novel optospintronic devices. Combining semimetallic graphene and selected semiconducting single-layer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) in a vertical heterostack brings together massless Dirac particles with long spin-lifetimes and strongly spin-polarized electrons. Hence, such vertical heterostacks are an exciting playground for proximity-induced spin-orbit physics and a suitable system to realize light-induced spin-transfer, thus holding potential for the implementation of optospintronics. The candidate will work on the synthesis of selected vertical heterostacks, will devise architectures to maximize proximity effects, and will explore the stack properties using spectroscopic techniques and transport measurements. Ideal candidates hold a degree in Physics or Materials Science.

Tematica di ricerca: Development of Room-Temperature Terahertz Nano-Detectors. The candidate will develop  semiconductor (InAs, InSb and InAs/InAs) 1D nanowire field effect transistors (FETs) as plasma wave or thermoelectric THz detectors and  THz plasmonic detectors based on new layered 2D nano materials.
Ideal candidates hold a degree in Physics.
